A novel solution to an ever-growing problem: plastic waste
Challenges
This project is still in its idea phase. Challenges will be to find a valid business model, decide the exact direction and to develop the technology.
Our Story
It started very small: I was in the lab, watching the bins fill up with an ever greater number of single-use plastic pipet tips, tubes, and dishes. What can come of this? It was then that I knew something has to change.
If we take a look what is happening around us, it is not surprising that current predictions state that humanity will increase (!) its plastic use by 70% until 2050. Given that there already is a country-sized waste island polluting our oceans today, where should these additional plastics go?
I recycle. Do you? It used to make me feel like I am doing my part, and I won't stop, but isn't it demoralizing, knowing that only 9% of plastic ever gets recycled? So no, I don't think banning single use plastic is the solution, and no, recycling cannot solve it all either.
I want to create a technology that doesn't rely on people's coherence to rules or guidelines. But that makes sure these very people will still have clean water and food, and a planet without (micro-)plastics.
